Flight attendant reveals the 'nastiest' parts of an airplane: 'Do not touch'

Don't forget to pack wet wipes for your next trip!

A flight attendant is helping travelers out by sharing the “nastiest” parts of an airplane that should be avoided at all costs.

Kat Kamalani, a flight attendant with more than 286,000 followers on TikTok, often uses her platform to share the tips, tricks and hacks she’s learned while on the job. On Sept. 8, she shared a video showcasing some of the “gross things on [an] airplane” — and it’s eye-opening.

“First thing’s first, do not touch the backseat pocket,” she warns. Though she notes that these pockets are cleaned out between flights, she also explains that they are not sanitized.

“Think of all the dirty tissues, barf bags and garbage that has been in there,” she says to deter frequent flyers from using the pockets. Consider us warned!

Next, Kamalani advises people to sanitize their tray tables before using them.

“I have seen so many parents use this as a changing table for their child’s diaper and then they put it in the backseat pocket,” she explains. Ew!

Kamalani then turns her attention to the air vents, which she notes have seen “thousands of hands.” As a result, she says you should always “wipe them down before you touch them.”

Next on Kamalani’s list are the safety guide cards. According to the flight attendant, these cards are never sanitized — and since these are looked at and touched by virtually everyone who gets on a plane, you might want to wipe it.

Finally, Kamalani says that you should “use a tissue to lock the door” when entering the lavatory. (This one feels pretty self-explanatory.)

People were shocked and appalled by Kamalani’s video.

“So basically nothing gets cleaned … now my fear of flying got worse,” one person said.

“Sounds like the airlines need to upgrade their cleaning process,” another added. “It’s broken so fix it!”

“Why don’t y’all sanitize these things? Lol especially during a global pandemic?” a third person asked. “I’m concerned.”

In the comments, Kamalani explained that the main reason why the plane remains so dirty is because cleaning crews are given so little time to get the aircraft ready between flights.
