The issue, which hits newsstands this week, celebrates the 100th birthday of British Vogue and will be the magazine's biggest issue yet.

Gilbert, who cites Audrey Hepburn as one of her style icons, appears in a print advertisement for Harvey Nichols, and is heralded as the first 100-year-old to grace the pages of the fashion Bible.

The department store released a short video documenting Gilbert's photoshoot, and it firmly cements her in our minds as one of our favourite style icons yet.

"I do things that a lot of people wouldn’t do at my age," she begins.

"I always liked keeping myself looking quite decent, even if I wasn’t going out I tried to keep my standards up."

Gilbert, who hails from Birmingham, also maintains that she dresses to "suit herself" and certainly doesn't "dress up for boys".

Having seen 100 years of trends come and go, Gilbert says there's one thing that shocks her about 21st century style: "You never see anybody in a hat!"

So what does Gilbert think of her Vogue debut?

"Oh, it's astonishing! It's pretty, isn't it?" she smiles when she views the finished product.
