While last night’s Myer launch was significantly smaller than others, it was no less impactful.

Held at Barangaroo in Sydney, the seated dinner for 100 VIP guests was the perfect way for the department store to showcase its new season in a more intimate setting. With a lineup of just 25 models and a leisurely hour between runway collections, the pace backstage was noticeably more relaxed.

But make no mistake – there were some major fashion moments to be had, with model Simone Kerr showing off her prima ballerina skills, and Myer opening up the heavens by making it rain on brand ambassador Jennifer Hawkins (don't worry, she had an umbrella).

As for the clothes, it seems the 70s is rearing its head again, with bell sleeves, fringing and lace dominating many of the collections in a chic monochrome palette.

“I'm loving darker florals, I think they’re beautiful for winter,” said Hawkins. “There’s also lots of fringing – particularly leather fringing! Also, bell sleeves are still huge, they’re such an elegant detail.”

Lace also heavily featured on the catwalk, with guests salivating over Self Portrai’s signature monochrome designs and White Suede’s chic collection of sheers.

Alex Perry showed his chic side with a series of long black dresses, while By Johnny followed with a similarly sleek silhouette.

Yeojin Bae and international designer Peter Pilotto bought a pop of colour to the show, while Maticevski infused his effortless monochrome collection with a bright orange finale dress, worn by Hawkins.

“To be representing Myer as a brand I feel so grateful, it's coming up on a decade,” Hawkins told marie claire. “I’m a really loyal person and so when someone is loyal back, I really value that.”
