Shocking: There was a time when Olivier Rousteing wasn't popular

Forget Taylor Swift’s gaggle of girlfriends – Olivier Rousteing’s #BalmainArmy is the squad everyone really wants to be in, but only a lucky, beautiful few actually get to call themselves part of the designer’s harem of muses.

One young lady that can definitely count herself as one of Rousteing’s esteemed pals is Gigi Hadid, who covers the December issue of Numéro magazine.

The Balmain-clad it-model dons a long, high ponytail and some serious neck gear on the cover, captured by Jean-Baptiste Mondino.

Inside the issue, Hadid poses alongside Rousteing, who sat down with the magazine for a chat, which so far covers the deets on the designer’s childhood.

In the article, we discover that like the rest of us, Rousteing also went through a phase in school where he was not one of the cool kids.

Seems hard to believe now as he is one of the most popular designers on social media. “At primary school I was quite popular – I was the ‘puppy’ everyone liked and thought was cute,” Rousteing told Numéro.

“In secondary school I was hated by everyone, but at sixth-form college I was a leader.”

So why the lapse in popularity? According to Rousteing, it was because he was just so darn fresh. “I was into fashion, different because I had particular tastes… I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was more feminine than my classmates, but I liked to look after my appearance, and I always wore the latest fashionable brands."

"I must have come across as a bit of a spoilt child, and the other kids were probably jealous,” he explained.

Still, Rousteing has no hard feelings towards the kids that hated on him back in the day – how could he now that he’s living such a fabulous life?

“What’s funny is that a number of [my old schoolmates] now send me private messages on Instagram telling me they adore me. Revenge is a dish best served cold…” Ba-ZING!
