With awareness surround trans issues at an all-time high - thanks, in huge part, to public figures like Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox, and Andreja Pejic - there are more openly trans models hitting it big in the fashion world than ever.

And now, up-and-comers are getting an agency to call their own.

According to The Advocate, Thailand-based agency Apple Model Management - which began repping trans models (in addition to cisgender men and women) in November, 2014 - will open an agency in Los Angeles later this year exclusively for transgender models.

It will be the first of its kind.

Apple Model Management L.A. will be headed by agency director Cecilio Asuncion, who’s well versed in the issues faced by trans people, both past and present: In 2013, he created an award-winning documentary on the subject called What’s the T?, which delved into the lives of trans women.

“We see trans individuals as beautiful,” Asuncion told The Advocate. “Our strong commitment to developing them as successful models is never about quantifying or qualifying their gender. It’s never a question of if they are women or men, it’s about their passion and commitment to being the best possible models they can be.”

So far, AMM L.A. has six models in its roster, though none have been named.

The agency is currently accepting applications from both trans men and women looking for representation.

Meaning that any of you West Coasters aspiring to be the next Andreja or Hari Nef should probably start practicing your Blue Steels and runway walks riiiiight about… now.
