Watch Plus-Size Model Ashley Graham’s Moving Talk About Body Acceptance
Here’s hoping you’re either wearing waterproof mascara, have some tissues handy, or are a much less emotional person that I am - because Ashley Graham’s recent Ted Talk was giving me that tingly nose-area feeling the whole way through.
The 27-year-old model, lingerie designer, and “body activist,” who was the first plus-size model to appear in a swimsuit ad in this year’s Sports Illustrated, spoke at Berklee College’s Valencia, Spain campus in April about her views on the $18 billion plus size fashion industry, and learning to “reclaim [her] body” - in spite of the negative vibes surrounding her.

“The fashion industry might label me as ‘plus-size,’ but I like to think of it as my size,” she says, before proclaiming this “the generation of body diversity.” Her speech is poignant, heartfelt, and - whether or not you’re a professional model - really relatable. (Also, the giant aquarium behind her is so cool.)
