Gemma Ward Says Her Two-Year-Old Daughter May Start Modelling

Australian supermodel Gemma Ward has claimed she would have no problem with her daughter following in her career footsteps when she grows up.

The 28-year-old, who shot a segment as a guest judge on Australia’s Next Top Model yesterday, said she would be prepared to mentor her two-year-old daughter, Naia, if she chose to enter the world of fashion.

“I am in a unique position where I can mentor her (Naia) and tell her what to expect and also what to look out for because there are a lot of pitfalls and things you need to look out for," Ward told The Daily Telegraph.

“I think I would be quite protective but I wouldn’t dissuade her.”

The Perth model, who has been on the cover of Vogue, was famously discovered at the age of 14 while accompanying a group of friends to a modelling competition.

She was snapped up by New York agency IMG for her "doll-like" features and went on to be named among the world’s 15 top-grossing models by Forbes with campaigns with the likes of Givenchy, Calvin Klein and Valentino under her belt.

Now, Ward is back on home ground and will appear on highly successful show Australia's Next Top Model, where she claims she won't be too harsh on the young models.

“I don’t like critiquing people and hurting their feelings,” she said.

“I don’t want to be harsh, I’ll be delicate. In general in life it helps to have a thick skin but in this job it helps removing yourself from your whole identity, that can help.”
