Camilla Kicks Off Day 5 Of Fashion Week With A Celebration On Sydney Harbour

Camilla Franks and her army of Camilla Angels kicked off Day five of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia with a bang aboard luxury super yacht The Seadeck on Sydney Harbour this morning.

Despite the early 6.30am call time (and a serious chill in the air) the fash-pack were out in full force, many clad in their best Camilla creations, eager to preview the designer's "Jambo Jambo!" Resort '17 collection.

Inspired by her recent travels to Africa, Franks' resort collection and presentation was a nod to "the vibrancy of colour, the beauty of the land and the spirit of the people" and a celebration of the "love and light" that she felt during her time there.

"Africa stole my heart and awakened my senses," Franks told Yahoo7's guest editor Nikki Phillips after the show.

"We don't speak the same language but I immersed myself into their world and all it represents and I learnt everything about their beading and embroidery and textiles."

Franks, a.k.a the 'Caftan Queen' is renowned for her colourful, theatrical presentations, and this was no exception.

Set to the sound of beating drums and Valanga KLhozza's African Choir, and a dancer who stole the show with her infectious energy, not even the most serious of fashionistas could resist cracking a smile and clapping along.

Models — including some seriously buff surfers — showcased the designer's resort collection, featuring her signature colourful aesthetic across caftans (obvy), as wells as dresses, minis, crop tops, swimwear, kidswear as well as boardies for the lads as well as her new made-to-order Camilla surfboards.

Packing out the front row, or more accurately the main deck, were stars including Sophie Falkiner, Nikki Phillips, Nadia Fairfax, Renee Ayris and Australia actress Rachel Taylor.

Franks hasn't shown at MBFWA since 2013 when she staged her epic show inside a teepee in Centennial Park which cost a reported $300,000 and included a petting zoo and international supermodel Georgia May Jagger opening the show.

A tough act to follow. This year's show was somewhat more modest, for lack of a better term, and relied upon the infectious performances and the stunning harbour city as it's backdrop didn't hurt either.

"This year I was given a very humble budget which I have exceeded by about 10," she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The most important thing is how the audience feels when they leave."

Considering the fashionistas were already hitting the bubbles and lamenting our arrival back at the dock — "this feels more like the after party than the first show," said one who seemed keen to kick on — we'd say it was a success.

But the show(s) must go on. With two more days of #MBFWA to go, we'd go as far to say Camilla Franks wins the show of the week.
