Kate Middleton had three events to attend yesterday, but no doubt the highlight was her visit to the National Portrait Gallery in London to view the results of her Vogue photoshoot.

The Duchess, who posed for the British edition of the iconic magazine in celebration of its 100th birthday, greeted fans at the entrance to the museum before heading inside to meet with photographer Josh Olins and director of the National Portrait Gallery, Nicholas Cullinan.

According to The Standard UK, she was suitably pleased with the images, telling Olins, "Thank you Josh. Really good to see you again."

Cullinan added that due to the nature of her questions at the exhibition, the Duchess clearly had an art history background.

"She's really knowledgeable,” he said. “I mean this is not the first time I've met her, and what came across in my first meeting with her is that, obviously she studied art history and she has a real understanding of art history and especially photography, but also a real enthusiasm for it.

"She really is genuinely engaged and she was asking some very intelligent and engaged questions tonight as we went around. It's always a joy to talk to someone when they really understand and have a love for a subject."

While one might have expected the portraits to be frothy and glamorous, they’re anything but – however, their understated aesthetic was exactly what the Duchess wanted from the feature, and in fact, she set the tone for the day by driving herself to the shoot with her hair in rollers.

“Kate joked about how she must have appeared to anyone who saw her driving in the car in her rollers,” Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman, who interviewed the Duchess, said.

In addition, Schulman added that Kate was more than happy to pose in “just a few layers” in the cold countryside, while the rest of the crew was suitably wrapped up.

"She didn't complain once," said Schuman.
