Why you won't see Rihanna wearing revealing clothing anytime soon

Rihanna is taking a break from wearing revealing clothing as she doesn't want people to think her sexiness is a "gimmick".

The 27-year-old singer left little to the imagination in a racy, sheer gown with sparkling Swarovski crystals at the C.F.D.A. (Council of Fashion Designers of America) awards last year and although Rihanna loved the ensemble, she decided to dress more conservatively afterwards.

She explained to Vanity Fair: "I wanted to wear something that looked like it was floating on me. But after that, I thought, OK, we can't do this again for a while. No nipples, no sexy s**t, or it's going to be like a gimmick. That night [at the C.F.D.A. awards] was like a last hurrah; I decided to take a little break from that and wear clothes."

The designer of Rihanna's dress, which revealed her nipples and bare bottom, previously admitted it was a risk but the singer - who co-designed the ensemble - wanted something dramatic to wear as she picked up her Fashion Icon Award.

Adam Selman said: "The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that. We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous."

And Rihanna's stylist Mel Ottenberg added: "I don't know if it's shocking - I'm with her all the time, so my shock gauge is off. But I told her that I thought she was ready for this dress a while ago, and that I wasn't. I'm the prude, and I'm just catching up."
