It's not often we hear Cindy Crawford open up about her heydays - but in a rare interview with her daughter Kaia, the supermodel did just that.

The duo sat down together for 'The Thick' to discuss Crawford's upcoming memoir, Becoming, and the memories Crawford holds of her early career.

The interview is entirely unscripted and real - which makes it such a refreshing read. So when Kaia asks what she thinks about her daughter being a model, Crawford's response is exactly what you'd expect from a doting mother.

"Your dad and I want you to be happy - whatever that may mean - so if modeling is something you like and want to continue, I can provide a road map and help you make good choices," Crawford says carefully. "But we also want to preserve your childhood and let you be a 14 year old when you're 14. There's no rush."

Luckily, Kaia agrees with this sentiment, saying she wants to be a teenager "while I'm a teenager".

"You didn't start modeling till 16, and only really got into it at 18, and look at how successful your career has been," Kaia explains.

Crawford's daughter also touches on her early career, saying that most people only know Cindy through her photographs - so for fans to be able to read about them in her new memoir is exciting.

"Did I pay you for this?" Crawford quips, to which Kaia responds, "You can later. There are stories in the book that even I hadn't heard before. You've always given me great advice, but I never realised how much you've accomplished."

The pair also agree that Crawford's modelling experience is already wildly different to Kaia's due to social media.

"Being a teenager isn't the same as it used to be," Kaia admits. "I love platforms that allow you to share your life with the world, like Instagram and Twitter, but sometimes they create a skewed sense of reality."

When Cindy asks if her daughter feels pressure to create a good life on social media, Kaia is quick to respond.

"A hundred percent," she admits. "People expect you to be doing something cool all the time. In a normal life, that's not happening. If you only share your best pictures, or your Facetuned self, the thought of people seeing you as you truly are can be scary."

While the times have definitely changed, one thing the pair can agree on is that no-one wakes up looking like a supermodel.

"Once you said something like, 'Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford,'" Kaia says. "Unless they're superhuman, nobody's going to look perfect all the time. It's reassuring to know even Cindy Crawford doesn't wake up looking like 'Cindy Crawford.' That's helped me learn to be happy with myself as I am."

Somehow we think Kaia will be just fine.
