When Australian designer Carla Zampatti announced just days ago that she would be including black dresses in her new bridal collection, we have to say we were pleasantly surprised.

For most women, the dark tone is a go-to colour for every occasion and we'll admit it makes up over half of our wardrobe space.

So when 25-year-old Sophie Cachia from the The Young Mummy blog shared a range of photos from her wedding day recently, showing her sporting a black, gothic gown, we absolutely loved it.

Now the beaded design, by Anthony Montesano from Signor Mont Couture, has gone viral, with brides all over the world commending Sophie, who claims she donned the colour because she "wanted to wear what she wanted to wear" for her brave decision.

The Melbourne woman's bridesmaids were also dressed in black and her groom wore a maroon blazer, paisley shirt and a casual pair of black jeans.

“I always wear black anyway," Sophie told the Daily Mail.

"I think it suits me and it’s such a bold and striking colour.

“We didn’t do it for anyone but us, we wanted to wear what we wanted to wear, simply as that."

Sophie says neither her, or her husband, wanted anything traditional for their big day and wanted to celebrate in their own way.

“Everyone has a wedding, why does everyone have to do everything the same? There’s no rule book,” she said.

“I didn’t do it for attention, or to be known as the girl who wore a black dress on my wedding day.

"I just wanted to wear a dress I think is beautiful.”

With designers jumping onboard the black wedding dress bandwagon, we see this as a major trend going forward.
