Fans Theorize Taylor Swift’s ‘Murder Mashup’ Performance Is Response to Ex Joe Alwyn

Swifties have some theories about Taylor Swift's latest move, as the songstress debuted a special "murder mashup" not long after her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, broke his silence about their breakup.

Swift was performing in Liverpool when she began the section of her concert devoted to surprise songs and mashups. Calling it her "favorite part of the show," she told the audience, "I'm gonna call this the murder mashup," before launching into a performance of the songs "Carolina" and "No Body, No Crime."

The first track is the Golden Globe-nominated song Swift wrote for the movie Where The Crawdads Sing, which, spoiler alert, features a murder mystery. "No Body, No Crime," which features HAIM and was released on Swift's album Evermore, has similar themes.

Fans questioned the timing of the performance, as Alwyn recently shared his first comments about the end of his relationship with Swift since their breakup in early 2023.

He told The Sunday Times in a new interview that he hoped "anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years," before commenting on how "abnormal" it was for their breakup to be public news so quickly after it happened.

Theories swirled on X, with one Swiftie writing, "Okay you have to give it to Taylor. A murder mashup right before she heads to London is hysterical," referencing the city where Alwyn lives.

"I laughed so hard and then cried so hard," someone replied, while another joked, "it’s a warning."

A different Swiftie shared a clip of the mashup and said, "Doing this right after her ex did an interview talking about her is so unserious 😭😭."

Others were simply stunned by the song choices, as emotional Swifties reacted with messages like, "Getting Carolina and NBNC makes me want to cry. My dream songs 🥲," and "God this is SO good."

Swift and Alwyn split in April 2023 after six years together. Later in the year, Swift met and started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and the two are still going strong now.
