It’s the most wonderful time of year — and if you’re lucky, your holiday calendar is earmarked with a seriously spectacular Christmas tradition. We’re talking about the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular in New York City, of course!
The Rockettes — easily one of the most well-known dance groups in the entire world — have been wowing audiences with their perfectly synchronized high kicks at Radio City since 1932. Of course, that’s not the only place to witness their dazzling dance skills —they’ve long been a highlight of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade too.
If you're a fan of the Rockettes, you might be wondering just how much they make during their time on stage. And we did some digging to find out.
How much do Rockettes get paid to perform at Radio City?
When Radio City was holding open call auditions for Rockettes earlier this year, the website stated that weekly base rate was $2,627.51.
Back in 2005, The New York Times reported that Rockettes get paid similarly to other Broadway performers. Today, the minimum salary for an Equity union Broadway performer is $2,439 a week, according to Playbill. While the Rockettes are not Equity performers (they are part of the American Guild of Variety Artists), they can often perform up to four shows a day. Phew!
Of course, because the show only runs for 15 weeks (November-January), many Rockettes have other forms of employment throughout the year.
Do Rockettes get paid to perform at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade?
Yep! Although it's not clear how much, per that open call auditions page, performers get additional compensation for any work outside the of Radio City schedule.
