Fans Express Concern for Dick Van Dyke After He Cancels Public Appearance

Just days after Dick Van Dyke missed a scheduled appearance at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, the 98-year-old actor has canceled another public appearance.

The Mary Poppins star was expected to appear at Fan X, a three-day fan convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the end of September, but organizers of the event shared the unfortunate news that he would no longer be able to attend in a Facebook post on Sept. 21.

"We are sorry to announce that Dick Van Dyke is not able to travel to FanX," the post read.

"He expresses his gratitude to all of those who continue to support him but, at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time."

In the comments, fans were both understanding and concerned.

"Totally understandable at his age he should be resting and being retired. We enjoy the memories and movies that he gives us," wrote one person.

"I totally understand this. When he came last time he had just gotten over pneumonia and it was very difficult for him to be there for half a day. I got super lucky to meet him and have him sign my 50th Marry Poppins DVD but I could tell that he was so worn out. He had to cancel the rest of the day and for me personally his health is most important and top priority," agreed a second Facebook user.

"I hope he's okay. He's amazing, and he definitely should take it easy. He's absolutely a legend," declared another fan.

One week prior to the Primetime Emmys, Van Dyke did manage to be there in person when the creators behind a CBS special based on his career, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, won a Creative Arts Emmy.
