Tried & Tested: L’oreal Paris Makeup Genius App

Have you ever spent 45 minutes attempting to recreate a red carpet smoky eye, only to squiz in the mirror and see Grumpy Cat looking back at you? I have.

That’s because unless you’re adept at sussing whether your favourite celeb has similar features to you, their make-up could make your slightly-smaller eyes or bigger lips look like a not-hot mess. Enter: the digi-whizzes at L’Oreal Paris. These clever cogs have cooked up an app that allows you to try on everything from lippie to liner before you buy, so you can be sure it’ll look the business on you.

To test the app, I downloaded it from iTunes (for free) and recreated three A-list looks I’m loving right now. Bring on the awkward selfies!

Look 1: Nude Lips & Smouldery Shadow

Cara Delevingne, Patron Saint of Brows, looks delightful in this combo. But will I? Happily, the app suggests yes. Apparently, the trick is choosing a pinky-nude lip colour to prevent the dark eyeshadow from washing me out. I’m happy to add the smoky eye back into my make-up look rotation - it’s the fastest way to sexy I know. It even made my stripy tee look a bit sultry (in that cool French way).
The verdict: BRB, adding a Kajal pencil to my make-up bag.
The kit:
Infallible Eyeshadow in Eternal Black
Colour Riche Le Kajal
Colour Riche Lip Colour in Rose Tendre

Look 2: Girly Cheeks & Lips

Willa Who? That was me 2 seconds before seeing this pic of Ms. Holland. Model and actress, she’s been in loads of stuff (ever hear of Gossip Girl?) but for me her beauty looks weren’t memorable. How things have changed! I’m obsessed with her girly cheeks and matching glossy lip, cleverly teamed with liner to make the whole thing feel a bit more grown up.
The verdict: Girly looks good on everyone.
The kit:
Glam Shine Balmy Gloss in Sin For Peach
Nude Magique BB Blush
Superliner Gel Eyeliner

Look 3: Wine-hued Lips

In my eyes, Rihanna can do no wrong. Her claret lips and subtle flick of liquid liner are just perfect. The tousled fringe and updo? Genius. I won’t be cutting in a fringe anytime soon, but I couldn’t steal her make-up fast enough. A wash of taupe shadow, slick of liner and swipe of lipstick later, I was basically her twin. Maybe we can do a Sia-style doppelganger video? Call me RiRi.
The verdict: I feel almost FAMOUS.
The kit:
Color Riche Crayon de Couleur in Smoky Taupe
Superliner Gel Eyeliner
Colour Riche Lip Colour in Cassis Passion
