The Los Angeles County District Attorney (D.A.) has decided not to charge the 65-year-old reality star with vehicular manslaughter and has officially rejected the case because she wasn't speeding and her conduct was not "unreasonable" when she "set off a chain of events" that resulted in the death of a female driver, Kim Howe, in the multi-car pile-up on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu earlier this year.

Following the decision, Caitlyn's lawyer, Blair Berk, told gossip website TMZ.com: "We believed from the start that a thorough and objective investigation would clear Caitlyn of any criminal wrongdoing. We are heartened the District Attorney has agreed that even a misdemeanour charge would not be appropriate.

"A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter."

A lengthy investigation found the former Olympian, who was known as Bruce Jenner at the time of the accident and underwent gender transition in May, hit her brakes belatedly when she crashed into the victim's Lexus, which then struck an oncoming Hummer, but her behaviour was not "unreasonable."

The I Am Cait star recently insisted she doesn't remember much about the accident.

She said: "I remember it very little, I remember it happening and that's about it.

"I was under the speed limit, I was going 46 in a 50 - my air bag didn't even go off."

But she added: "A tragedy like this, you'll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can."
