Ryan Gosling is using his fame to campaign for animal rights.

The 34-year-old actor has penned an open letter to the CEO of Costco urging the company to stop selling eggs from caged chickens in their stores.

"I am writing today about the recent undercover investigation conducted by my friends at The Humane Society of the United States at a Costco egg supplier," Ryan wrote to Craig Jelinek.

"Video footage revealed abhorrent cruelty including rows and rows of birds confined in filth-laden cages with the mummified corpses of their cage mates."

The letter comes after video footage obtained by The Humane Society revealed the disgusting conditions of Hillandale, a Costco egg supplier's factory.

Hillandale responded to the video and insisted the disturbing footage was from an isolated incident.

"It was his job to identify and address the types of issues that were shown, and he did not adequately perform his job requirements," the egg supplier said.

The Lost River star has called upon Costco to go completely "cage-free".
