Leonardo DiCaprio Donates $100,000 in Ice Bucket Challenge

The 'Ice Bucket Challenge' has raised $88.5 million for research to fight ALS, the disease otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Now, actor Leonardo DiCaprio joins the list of dozens of celebs including Ben Affleck, Anna Wintour and Chris Hemsworth who have all taken part in the dare.

Not only did Leo accept the challenge in response to David Beckham's nomination, he also reportedly donated a whopping $100,000 to the ALS Association, which helps fund research to fight ALS as well as support people suffering from the condition.

The 39-year-old star went on to boldly nominate Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the challenge.

"Hello from Lake Athabasca, we're here learning about the Canadian tar sands. We took a moment to join the #IceBucketChallenge movement in support of the ALS Association," the Wolf of Wall Street star wrote on his Facebook page.

"My friends Chief Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation challenges Dave Collyer president of Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Chief Courtoreille of the Mikisew Cree First Nation challenges Mark Little of Suncor Canada and The Sierra Club President Michael Brune challenges Shell CEO Ben van Beurden," he continued.

"And me? In addition to a donation from my foundation, I challenge Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper."

Well known for his philanthropic work through his own Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, the actor is currently in the Lake Athabasca region in Canada working on his latest project Carbon - an environmental documentary about the impact of carbon emissions.
