Katy Perry Considered Suicide After Divorcing Russell Brand

Katy Perry is known for her bubbly personality, but the singer reveals she went through a tough time after her divorce from Russell Brand led to suicidal thoughts. Speaking to Billboard magazine, Katy explains the meaning behind her song By the Grace of God which appears on her upcoming album PRISM.

"I was still in a dark place," Katy says about how she felt in November 2012 when she began working on the album. "I hadn't let the light in."

"That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'" the 28-year-old reveals.

Katy also takes a dig at her ex-husband in another song on the album titled Ghost, referencing his ending their 14-month marriage via text message. She sings, "You sent a text / It’s like the wind changed your mind."

Luckily Katy is happier these days dating her muso boyfriend John Mayer, who she gushes about in the interview. "He literally is a genius, as is evident from his songwriting," she says.
