The world's biggest social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, are suffering worldwide outages this Friday morning as users report difficulties with using the platform.
Down Detector saw a dramatic spike in people reporting "total blackout" issues when accessing Facebook's site from around 7:16am AEDT.
A similar spike is seen for Instagram, a largely mobile-based app owned by Facebook, where users started experiencing issues with their news feed from around 7:05am.
"My Facebook, Messenger and Instagram isn’t working at all on anything," one user said at 7:43am.
"From what I can tell it's most of the world that's down," another user said.
Social media users took to Twitter to vent their frustrations about the platforms, joking that the outages were a boon for the microblogging site.
Instagram acknowledged in a tweet that the platform wasn't functioning properly.
More to come.
