Eve Hewson Reveals the Surprising Way She Discovered Her Fate on “Bad Sisters” Season 2 (Exclusive)
"I was like, 'Oh, my God!'" Hewson tells PEOPLE of her reaction to Becka's plot twist in the Apple TV+ comedy

Eve Hewson didn't exactly get a heads-up about the major life change that was in store for her Bad Sisters character in season 2.
Hewson, 33, plays Becka, the youngest of the Garvey sisters in the Apple TV+ Irish comedy series, and in the latest episode of season 2, which premiered Nov. 27, her character learned she's pregnant — unexpectedly.
"I didn't know," Hewson says of Becka's pregnancy before sharing the hilarious way she learned of the twist.
"The way I found out that she was pregnant, or that I was pregnant, or whatever, was I was helping a friend of mine audition for the Joe part," Hewson shares, referring to the character who plays Becka's new boyfriend in season 2.
"And he was like, 'Will you help me do it?' And I was like, 'Yeah, sure.' And he gave me the sides and I was like, 'Oh, my God!'"
The auditions for Joe — which ultimately went to Irish actor Peter Claffey, who is also set to star in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as Ser Duncan the Tall — were happening before any of cast had started filming, Hewson says, which explains why her friend knew before her.
"This was before we read [episodes] 1 and 2, because they were casting before and people had snippets," she shares. "And I was like, 'Oh, my God.' I was like, 'I'm pregnant?' And he was like, 'You didn't know that?' I was like, 'No.' So that's how I found out."
She purposefully keeps her friend's identity a secret as he did not ultimately get the part, but Hewson says that "everyone at the time was texting me" about the role.
"They were like, 'Basically, half of London is auditioning to play your boyfriend,'" she recalls. "And I was like, 'That's quite nice.'"
Hewson's character's pregnancy is not the only big twist so far in season 2. The season kicked off with a bang as episode 2 ended with the shocking death of one of the Garvey sisters, Grace (Anne-Marie Duff).
The actress told PEOPLE she "loved the drama" of her character's death — the result of her car swerving off the road in the middle of the night.
"I sort of relish surprises in drama because I think we can become comfortable, even as viewers, watching things. So I love it when somebody suddenly takes a mad turn. It always feeds the monster of the story."
