Ethan Hawke has weighed in on directing his daughter Maya Hawke's intimate scenes for his upcoming movie Wildcat.
Helmed by Ethan and starring Maya in the lead role, Wildcat is a biopic on the life of Southern Gothic author Flannery O'Connor intertwined with scenes from six of the writer's short stories.
The Stranger Things actress plays Flannery as well as six other characters, with some of them engaging in sequences of a sexual nature.
In a recent interview with Variety, the father-daughter duo insisted there was no awkwardness on set when Maya was filming said scenes, which she appeared in alongside Rafael Casal and Cooper Hoffman.
"We needed to take care of Rafael and Cooper," Ethan said. "I think it was weird for them. We were so comfortable with it. I couldn't care less."
Maya added: "We made sure to have an intimacy coordinator on set for them. So that they felt safe and comfortable and not like they were being spied on…"
Ethan then joked: "…by some creepy dad.
Co-written by Ethan and Shelby Gaines, the movie premiered at Telluride Film Festival on September 1. It benefited from a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement so that the cast could promote it amid the ongoing actors' strike.
Alongside Maya, Casal and Hoffman, Wildcat also stars Ozark's Laura Linney, One Dollar's Philip Ettinger, The White Lotus' Steve Zahn, Daredevil's Vincent D'Onofrio, The Many Saints of Newark's Alessandro Nivola and MTV's Scream star Willa Fitzgerald.
Set to return in the fifth and final instalment of Stranger Things, Maya will next be seen in parody crime thriller The Kill Room opposite her mum Uma Thurman, Joe Manganiello, Debi Mazar, Dree Hemingway and Samuel L Jackson.
Wildcat is scheduled to play at Toronto International Film Festival later this month. A wider release date is to be announced.
