If you’re not yet sick of hearing this, good, and if you are, sorry not sorry, but here goes nothing: It’s boot season, which means a few things. First, it’s time to play up the legs and have fun with your hem. If you opt for a silk midi skirt, consider styling a pair of moto boots with it to toughen it up. If you’re wearing a sweater dress, have fun with suede styles to mix and match textures. And if you’re wearing, well, jeans, the only feasible option is to follow Emma Stone’s lead.
The actress, who’s clearly perfected the art of wearing boots with jeans, was spotted out and about in New York City recently, and I’m still thinking about her low-key cool outfit. It was simple but fun. It taught a great lesson about denim come wintertime, not to mention the importance of owning a classic black sweater, and, of course, a cool-girl baseball cap. But alas, this story is about her jeans-and-boot combo, which is the only pairing you need to know about.
7 Emma Stone-Inspired Wide-Leg Jeans
We’ve all been there, trying to tuck our jeans into boots only to fail miserably. The times have changed, and this season, it’s all about wearing boots under pants, not over. The best (and I think only) denim style to wear is, of course, wide-leg jeans. The silhouette has been trending for a while, given its easy-going, nonchalant look. Of course, the pant’s comfort can’t be missed either, as the bagginess allows a certain amount of flow and movement that others (ahem, skinnies!) don’t. But another huge plus of wide-legs is that you can wear all of your boots underneath, whether it’s your favorite suede knee-highs, chunky combat, or easygoing ankle styles, and it won’t look bulky, like with other jeans.
Stone, for example, paired her light-wash, wide-leg jeans with black leather boots, and the mystery remains: Is she wearing ankle boots or knee-highs? But therein lies the fun part: It’s your little secret that you’re wearing [insert boot style], and you can either tell people or you can keep it to yourself. Regardless, there’s no denying the only jeans to wear with your boots this season is, in fact, wide-legs, so I rounded up some of the best below.
Pistola Lana High-Rise Ultra-Wide Jeans
I’m a die-hard Pistola fan, and I think the brand makes some of the best jeans in the game. I own a few styles, but after this Stone sighting, I’m, of course, eyeing this wide-leg option that feels so perfect for fall and winter.
Levi’s XL Straight Wide-Leg Jeans
Levi’s are always a classic, but I’m super intrigued by this new XL wide-leg version with a tie waistband. They have all the signatures of Levi’s, a.k.a., the perfect fit, fabric, and comfort, but with a trendy twist (that waistband). Plus, you’ll know these last given the denim’s durability.
Joe’s Jeans the Mia High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans
Another tried-and-true brand of mine is Joe’s, and these jeans are 10 in all categories: fit, wash, and price. They have the perfect amount of stretch, which I need in jeans, plus the dark-wash is so chic. I plan on wearing these with my tan suede knee-high boots.
