Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence will soon be family — their kids just got engaged

Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence first announced their relationship in 2021.

And just like that, an entertainment dynasty is born.

Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence, the son of Eddie Murphy and daughter Martin Lawrence, have announced their engagement after three years of dating. The couple jointly shared a video via Instagram on Nov. 30 documenting Eric Murphy's romantic proposal in front of a glowing, heart-shaped light and set to Eric Benét's "Spend My Life With You."

Jasmin Lawrence wrote in the caption, "We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter... Special thank you to everyone who made this moment so beautiful!!"

The couple first announced their relationship in June 2021, when Jasmin took to her Instagram to wish Eric a happy birthday, writing, "Happy birthday, my love! I’m so incredibly blessed to know you, to love you, and to have you by my side. Cheers to many more blessings, laughs, and beautiful memories! I love you so much!!"

They then started making public appearances together and posting more paeans to their love on social media.

Film and comedy legends Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence first crossed paths over 30 years ago, appearing together in the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang, a star vehicle for Murphy and one of Lawrence's first big Hollywood roles.

By the early 1990s, Eddie Murphy had already appeared in several of his most enduringly beloved films, like Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America, while Martin Lawrence had been working his way through the D.C. comedy scene and made a huge impression in his first film role, in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. But Boomerang was the real announcement of his talent, not just because he could hold his own opposite the more established Murphy, but with the rest of the all-star ensemble of Black talent, including Halle Berry, Eartha Kitt, David Alan Grier, Robin Gives, Grace Jones, and Chris Rock.

The actors appeared together again in 1999's Life, and Murphy recently teased they may be uniting again soon for a remake of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

In 2022, Martin Lawrence joked about Eric and Jasmin's possible future wedding on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, saying, "Imma try to get Eddie to pay for it." This past June, Eddie Murphy, who this year celebrated his own marriage, paid tribute to Eric and Jasmin's love story, saying, "They're both beautiful, they look amazing together — and it's funny, everybody’s like, 'What is that baby gonna be funny?'... Our gene pool is gonna make this funny baby."
