Ed Kelce Clarifies Bold Statement About Kanye West After Rapper Name-Dropped Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift
Ed Kelce has returned to social media to "clarify" the bold comments he made earlier this month about Kanye West.
The Kelce family patriarch stepped up in defense of Taylor Swift and her beau as he elaborated on the brief statement he left on Facebook on Aug. 8, where he described the way West namedropped the "Mastermind" singer and his son, Travis Kelce, on his new album as "Mental illness on full display."
Papa Kelce took to the platform again on Aug. 15, explaining that his "comment on Kanye West was not so much a criticism as it was [his] thoughts on his mental health."
West's battle with bipolar disorder is well-documented and frequently referenced during his more controversial statements and actions, and Kelce observed that the rapper's "behaviors and comments beyond Taylor indicate a paranoia and over-inflated sense of self worth."
The father of two also acknowledged that it was clear West "is a talented guy," and expressed hope that "he's getting help with these issues."
On the Vultures 2 track "Lifestyle (Demo)," West's collaborator Lil Wayne raps, "I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce," which is what led to Kelce's original comment. It's not the first time Ye has namedropped Swift in his music, nor is it the most direct, as Taylor spliff appears to be a variety of weed vape cartridges.
However, given the pair's tumultuous history with one another, most fans assume that the phrase's inclusion was intended to get under the Eras Tour artist's skin, which many of Kelce's followers likened to him being "obsessed" with Swift.
Many also appreciated him standing up for his son's girlfriend, but it's not the first time Ed has proven to be a protective parental figure. He also used his platform to speak out after an alleged stalker was arrested in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, for reportedly threatening the couple, writing at the time, "Love to know who this some-b---h is."
