‘Dune 2,’ ‘Emilia Pérez’ Among American Cinema Editors Eddie Noms

American Cinema Editors revealed the nominees for its 75th ACE Eddie Awards, which will be handed out Jan. 18 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

The nominees for dramatic theatrical feature are Jake Roberts for “Civil War,” Nick Emerson for “Conclave,” Joe Walker for “Dune: Part 2,” Juliette Welfling for “Emilia Pérez” and Eliot Knapman and Margaret Sixel for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” In the category for a comedic theatrical feature, ACE voters nominated Sean Baker for “Anora” (which he also directed), Marco Costa for “Challengers,” Robert Nassau for “A Real Pain,” Coralie Fargeat and Jérôme Eltabet for “The Substance” and Myron Kerstein for “Wicked.”

More from Variety

This year the dramatic feature category nominees include the sequels to two past winners of the Oscar in film editing. Joe Walker won an Oscar for “Dune” in 2022, and is now nominated for “Part 2.” And Margaret Sixel collected an Oscar and Eddie for “Mad Max: Fury Road” in 2016. Sixel is now nominated for “Furiosa” alongside fellow editor Eliot Knapman.

Each year during the past decade, the eventual Oscar winner in film editing earned an Eddie nomination. The winner of the Eddie for a dramatic feature went on to win the Oscar in film editing four times during that period, including a year ago when “Oppenheimer” editor Jennifer Lame collected both awards. Once during that time, the winner of the comedy feature Eddie collected the Oscar (Paul Rogers won both awards for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”).

The editors of “Flow,” “Inside Out 2,” ” Moana 2,” “Wallace & Gromit: Vengence Most Fowl” and “The Wild Robot” are nominated in the category for an animated theatrical feature. Nominees in series categories include the editors of “The Bear,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Penguin” and “Slow Horses.”

As previously announced, “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu will receive the Golden Eddie during the ceremony, and Maysie Hoy (“McCabe & Mrs. Miller”) and Paul Hirsch (“Star Wars”) will accept Career Achievement Awards.
