Drew Barrymore Promises She ‘Will Try to Practice Physical Distance’ With Her Talk Show Guests
Drew Barrymore hears you, and she is going to give her talk show guests some space. (Or at least she will try her best to.)
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight following her syndicated talk show’s recent renewal, Barrymore — who has often been mocked on social media for getting too touchy-feely with her guests, sitting right next to them and stroking their arms or holding their hands during interviews — says that in the upcoming season, “I will try to practice physical distance… which is not my strong point!”

Barrymore defended her intimate approach, though, by reminding us that her talk show debuted in September 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic: “Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself! I like to be around people!” She concedes that her habit of cozying right up to her guests is “not everyone’s favorite,” adding: “I’m sorry to those people!”
The Drew Barrymore Show — which features celebrity interviews along with lifestyle segments and feel-good news stories — was just renewed for Season 6, which will take the daytime talker through the 2025-26 season. The new season is slated to premiere on Monday, Sept. 9.
