Drew Barrymore gets emotional over“ ”advice Daisy Ridley received from “Star Wars” costar Carrie Fisher: 'That's so surreal'
Barrymore previously worked with the late actress on the films like "The Wedding Singer" and "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."
Drew Barrymore found herself becoming choked up after Daisy Ridley revealed the thoughtful piece of advice she received from the late, great Carrie Fisher.
During Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host asked Ridley if it was true that Fisher, who died at 60 in 2016, had given her some pearls of wisdom while they were filming the latest Star Wars trilogy together.
“The one thing she said to me that I really remembered is I used to feel… when people approached me, people were being so nice but I was always so stunned that people were talking to me who I didn’t know,” Ridley said. “And so I’d be a bit like, uh, stutter-y.”

Barrymore nodded her head several times in approval before speaking. “Sorry, that’s…” she said, before getting visibly emotional and turning her face away from the camera. “That’s really hitting me.”

Both Barrymore and Ridley have their own film connections to Fisher. Ridley shared the silver screen with the actress across three Star Wars films: 2015’s The Force Awakens, 2017’s The Last Jedi, and 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker — the last two of which were released following Fisher’s passing.

Not only did Fisher help provide re-writes for her film The Wedding Singer, but she also had a brief cameo in the 2003 film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The hilarious scene saw Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu go undercover as nuns in order to garner information from Fisher’s Mother Superior.
The pair also shared a long history together offscreen, with Fisher penning a 2007 interview with Barrymore for Glamour magazine. Barrymore also revealed on a 2018 episode of Watch What Happens Live that she used to visit Fisher’s home while the Princess Diarist author was re-writing The Wedding Singer.
“She just had a very open home,” Barrymore said at the time. “I’d been there for parties and her office in the daytime, and it was classic, sort of Spanish, California, sunshine, orange groves, and creativity.”
