Stand-in St George Illawarra captain Jack de Belin has dodged suspension for the cannonball tackle that left him sin-binned in the loss to the Dolphins on Thursday night.

In the first half, referee Adam Gee sent de Belin to the sin bin for his cannonball tackle - an illegal shot that involves a third defender entering late to target the ball-carrier's legs.

The tackle has resurfaced in recent weeks and has the potential to cause serious leg injuries but had not typically resulted in a sin bin until the clash at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe.

De Belin's dismissal stymied the Dragons, who were already on the back foot and conceded another try immediately after he left the field. They ultimately fell 26-12.

The middle forward has received a $1800 fine for his grade one dangerous contact charge.

Dolphins forward Ray Stone and and utility Kodi Nikorima have been handed grade one dangerous throw and careless high tackle charges and can accept $2500 and $1800 fines, respectively.
