Drag queens deliver meals with a side of lip-syncing

Drag queens in San Francisco are delivering more than glamorous looks.

The Oasis night club recently launched a “Meals on Heels” service. For the cost of delivery and a respectable tip, drag queens will deliver food, cocktails and a socially-distanced lip-sync right to your door. Amoura Teese and Kochina Rude are two of the participating queens that are getting creative as the pandemic has shut down live events temporarily.

“Drag is such a beating heart of the city,” Rude told the Associated Press. “So it’s not only good for us, but it’s good for the people around us in our community. I’m inspired by it and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Kelsie Costa ordered a meal on heels for her family and Rude showed up to perform a lip-sync of “Finally” by CeCe Peniston.

“There’s not a lot to do these days with shelter-in-place and COVID and all that,” Costa said. “So gotta spice it up somehow. It’s really fun.”

D’Arcy Drollinger, the nightclub’s owner, sees the service as an act of resilience.

“You have the choice, you can either give up, go home and call it a night, or you can put some duct tape on, find a song you don’t know that well and go out there and sell the number,” Drollinger told the Associated Press. “That’s how I’ve been looking at this whole thing, is we’ve got to sell the number. The show must go on.”

While Drollinger only planned to offer the service once, it has taken off and will be available until Oasis can reopen.
