Dr. Pimple Popper Clapped Back at Joy Behar Over a Dr. Oz Joke On 'The View'
In addition to having a hit show, Dr. Sandra Lee is a board-certified dermatologist.
The internet's favorite dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, a.k.a. Dr. Pimple Popper, had the best clapback after her name was mentioned during a segment on The View. During the "Hot Topics" discussion, the show's co-hosts were discussing Donald Trump's latest cabinet nomination: Dr. Mehmet Oz as head of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
One of the show's panelists, Joy Behar, made a joke about the selection, comparing the TV surgeon to Dr. Lee, who has her own docuseries titled, Dr. Pimple Popper.
"Dr. Oz is a very well-known heart surgeon. This is an administrative position, but because he's on television, Trump picks people who are on TV," Behar said of Dr. Oz. "They might as well pick Dr. Pimple Popper. I mean, the guy is qualified to do heart surgery, not necessarily run Medicare."
Dr. Lee's office shared a statement on behalf of her with Entertainment Weekly. "Thank you for the shout-out, Joy! We love The View!" the statement read. "As a board-certified dermatologist in practice for over 2 decades, I think I could probably lend a valuable voice to any discussion about our healthcare system."
She then finished with the most iconic clap back: "In the meantime, I’ll ask our 30 million followers what they think."
In addition to her widely popular TLC show, Dr. Lee is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for MOHS Surgery, according to her practice's website. Her undergraduate degree is from UCLA, and she attended the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Trump announced the polarizing addition of Dr. Oz—who received a medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and trained as a cardiothoracic surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital, according to ABC News—to his administration on Tuesday.
"There may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again," Trump said in a statement. "Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake."
The View has had no shortage of drama this week. In fact, on Monday, Whoopi Goldberg lost her footing and tripped right as the episode was starting. She was able to quickly recover and continue on with the show before addressing the snafu. “I don’t know what I tripped over,” Goldberg said as she took her seat. “It was crazy. I was like, skip, skip, skip, ah! I thought, oh, here I go. So, I’m steady on my feet now!" No injuries were sustained during the accident.
