Don’t Ask Daniel Craig Who the Next James Bond Will Be: ‘I Don’t Care’
Everyone has thoughts about who the next James Bond should be—except Daniel Craig.
In a recent interview with Variety, the 56-year-old English actor opened up about who would be his pick to become the new 007. Though, it turns out he’s indifferent to it. “If you were to pass the James Bond torch, who would you love to see play him?” the publication asked Craig, along with his Queer co-star Drew Starkey. “I don’t care,” the British actor responded with a chuckle.

The interviewer also quizzed the two on whether they could name the number of James Bond movies Craig has made over the years. “Are you asking me that?” Craig wondered after hearing the question. “Do I have to write the answer? I’m gonna get it wrong.” Starkey couldn’t come up with an exact figure, either, but admitted “too many.”
The Knives Out star officially stepped into the 007 role in 2006 and ultimately retired from the spy franchise in 2021 after five films. Following No Time to Die, the last flick in the series, Craig was more than ready to leave his character behind and had zero regrets about killing off the MI6 secret agent.
“I had an incredibly fortunate 17 years of my life making this,” Craig said during his stint on BBC Radio 4’s Best of Today podcast. “I literally want to spend the next 20 years of my life trying to unhook it all and try and put it into a place because it was incredible. I left it where I wanted it to be. And that I was given the chance to do that with the last movie.”
In terms of who will be named as Craig’s successor, rumors began swirling in March that Aaron Taylor-Johnson (The Fall Guy) was in line for the job. The Bullet Train actor allegedly received a formal offer to appear in the next installment, dubbed Bond 26, which is slated to begin shooting this summer. However, nothing has been confirmed.
Since his exit, Craig joined director Rian Johnson’s immensely popular Knives Out franchise and is the only actor to reprise his role in all three movies. The third, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, will see Craig reunite with his Spectre co-star Andrew Scott. Other A-listers who have signed on include Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, and Cailee Spaeny. The film is due out in 2025 and will stream on Netflix.
