Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will make season debut on Sunday

There hasn’t been much baseball news worth celebrating on Friday, but the Los Angeles Dodgers did share some positive news on ace Clayton Kershaw.

The team has announced Kershaw will come off the injured list Sunday afternoon to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kershaw was scratched and placed on the injured list just hours before his opening day assignment against the San Francisco Giants. The 32-year-old left-hander had a flare-up of back issues that have plagued him over the last two seasons, but fortunately the situation didn’t prove to be serious.

Right-hander Dustin May started in Kershaw’s place in the opener. The Dodgers won the game 8-1 and have started the season 5-2 despite the absence of Kershaw and veteran left-hander Alex Wood.

Kershaw looked good when healthy in 2019. He posted a 3.03 ERA over 29 games last season. However, another rough postseason, coupled with another injury concern, will have people focusing on how he bounces back.
