Diplo admits to 'light' LSD trip during CNN's “New Year's Eve Live” broadcast: 'I'm not even lying'
The off-the-rails interview shocked Andy Cohen while his cohost, Anderson Cooper, broke into giggles.
When it comes to ringing in the new year by cutting loose, Diplo might have Andy Cohen beat.
As tradition requires, the Bravo host once again joined forces with Anderson Cooper to host CNN's New Year’s Eve Live, which sees the unlikely duo reporting from Times Square with interviews, jokes, and hourly shots. But the tipsy hosts had nothing on the celebrated DJ, who joined them for a video interview and admitted to being high on live TV.
It all began with Cohen pointing out that Diplo — whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz — infamously ran the 2023 LA marathon after taking LSD. He then asked, “What’s the most conventional place that you’ve done LSD?" Diplo replied with a laugh, "Right now. I did some on the helicopter, on the way here.”

His response came as a shock to Cohen and Cooper both. The CNN news anchor immediately broke out into hysterical laughter (no big surprise to anyone familiar with the NYE broadcast) while Cohen seized the moment.
"Right now?!" the Watch What Happens Live host repeated. "Oh my god, hold on. Please tell me — you're tripping right now?"
"I'm not even lying," Diplo said, adding, "Yeah, but it’s like a light trip."
After Cooper recovered from the laughter, he joined Cohen in digging for details: "So you're like microdosing?"
Replied Diplo, "Yeah, but I think I might've macrodosed."
Cohen then inquired about the dosing method, asking whether the DJ used a spray, prompting Diplo to clarify that he has a dropper. Around that point, Cohen turned to his cohost and asked, "We should point out it's illegal, right?"
With a laugh, Diplo suggested, "We should just cut this."
Cohen chimed in with an important reminder about the broadcast: "Cut it? It's live!"

The interview has since gained traction on social media. Luckily, Cooper did his due diligence where LSD is concerned, reminding viewers, “We don’t recommend this at home.”
Representatives for Diplo did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.
The duo eventually bid farewell to Diplo, who was minutes away from a performance at the historic Avalon Hollywood nightclub in Los Angeles. The cohosts then took some time to share their admiration for the DJ.
“I wish I was Diplo," Cooper said. "I got to say, I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle? ‘I’m Diplo. I do things.'”
He added, "I feel bad about my own boring life compared to Diplo’s. He’s got helicopters and he’s like, doing things. He did like four shots while we were talking."
Cohen pointed out, "And he’s going to play."
"How does he work? How does anybody do anything?" Cooper wondered aloud. "I’ve had four shots. I just want to go to sleep."
