Dinner! Drinks! And Friends Stomping an Impromptu Runway at Eckhaus Latta Spring 2025

Are fashion shows still needed? The jury is out on that. But a dinner party with close friends, some cocktails, a few delights from Momofuku that all lead to a makeshift runway with your friends storming down it — some with smiles! — while everyone cheers and catcalls and live music plays? Um, yeah, that is definitely needed.

When you own your brand, you can do what you want. “It’s not like we are beholden to some sort of board that requires us to do things in some way,” Zoe Latta explained before her and Mike Eckhaus’ event. “We wanted to do something different, kind of question the format.”

Their answer was to invite some close friends to style themselves in the new Eckhaus Latta spring collection and have them all to a cool TriBeCa loft for a chill dinner and drinks. The vibes were low key, for a fashion party, but after the first course and some words from the design duo, actor and comedian Kate Berlant took the microphone and the “fashion show” began. “Oh, you thought this was just a dinner. Wrong,” she said, calling for various friends, like Ella Emhoff, to take to the impromptu runway — and the crowd lived for it.

The look book shows nubby grandpa fisherman-style knits, apron skirts with sporty chord details, patchwork denim, double-layered cropped Henleys, sheer skirts, nylon tracksuits, more sunglasses and handbags (a brand first). A few were shown at dinner but really the event was about real people breathing life into the brand. So collection images are great, but to get the show…well, you had to be there.

“Mike and I really like making sportswear,” Latta said, highlighting their denim, interesting knits and bestselling jersey pieces. “We love making grandiose gestures and people think, ‘Oh, this is for a show.’ But in our daily lives, we really — and in our customers’ daily lives — come to love the casual nature and ease in which people can wear clothes, and that’s what we’re really getting good at.”
