All the Info You Desperately Need on Bravo's New 'Vanderpump Rules' Reboot
In a plot twist no one saw coming, Bravo recently announced that Vanderpump Rules is being rebooted with an all-new cast. The network dropped this bombshell on November 26, and I've personally been coping by whisper-singing "You know that it's our time / These are the best days of our lives," tears streaming down my face. Kidding, but only kind of.
We'll always hold up the original VPR as the gold standard for good reality TV, but can't deny that this reboot sounds intriguing. Here's what we know about when the new Vanderpump Rules drops, who's in the cast, and why Bravo made this decision. But first:
When Will the Show Drop?
Unclear, but according to Variety production will start in 2025. So, depending on how fast the filming process is, we can probably expect the new season of Vanderpump Rules in the latter half of next year.
Who Is in the Cast?
The cast hasn't been revealed just yet, but Bravo's official announcement makes it clear they're looking for existing staffers from Lisa Vanderpump's restaurants—in the spirit of the original show:
“Under Lisa Vanderpump’s watchful eye, the West Hollywood mainstay SUR — and now TomTom — welcomes the next batch of servers, hosts and bartenders rife with plenty of drama, situationships and frenemies.”
Lisa herself noted that “[We’re] not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules. It’s just gonna be totally different there. Still, we’ll go back to the premise of the complications of running a restaurant and the staff in it. And that always has a story to tell.”
Why Is the Show Being Rebooted?
Depends on who you ask. According to People, Bravo recast the show because “there were so many fractions” among the original SURvers: “There had been a long pause in production, and nothing had really changed among the cast since the reunion,” a source said. “Everyone was still stuck in their feelings and refusing to bend. The network felt there was no path forward with the group in that capacity.”
The insider noted that “the group ties to SUR and Lisa was practically non-existent” so “it just didn’t make sense to continue."
"This is an attempt to recalibrate and bring the show back to the thing that made it such a success to begin with," they added. "It’s a fresh start, and the players they have are interested and motivated to participate. Fans will be happy with what they see. It’s going to feel like a return to form.”
Oh, and another source shut down theories that the original cast's salary demands had to do with their ousting, saying it "was completely driven by creative" and "there weren't any negotiations happening between the cast and the network where money was even discussed."
Meanwhile, Andy Cohen said that recasting the show was “the absolute right thing to do” and a “very smart programming move,” before adding “I’m so impressed with the gang from Vanderpump Rules. The production team and the folks on the show. Specifically, the folks on the show, who always remained very true to themselves. Like it or hate it or like them or hate them, they were always very much themselves, and that’s what made that show so entertaining and surprising season after season.”
