Dennis Quaid, 66, weds new bride, 27, despite 39 year age gap

Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoie have tied the knot after a whirlwind romance, cementing their relationship in defiance of its staggering 39-year age gap.

The Parent Trap star, 66, said ‘I Do’ to PHD candidate Laura, 27, on June 2 in a very intimate ceremony at a resort in Santa Barbara, California.

The pair were forced to elope after a planned Hawaiian wedding was derailed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple first began dating in May last year and their whirlwind romance kicked up a notch with a proposal in October 2019.

The pair’s staggering age gap of 39 years has raised eyebrows throughout their relationship.

At 27 years old, Laura is younger than her now stepson, 28-year-old Jack Quaid, by one year.

Jack is Dennis’ child with actress Meg Ryan, to whom the star was married for almost ten years in the 1990s.

This will be The Rookie star’s fourth marriage after he split with his most recent ex Kimberly Quaid in 2018.

He was wed to P. J. Soles from 1978 until 1983, Meg Ryan from 1991 until 2001 and Kimberly from 2004 until 2018.

Laura is a student, currently completing her PHD at the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business where she is expected to graduate in 2021.

Dennis Quaid ‘wasn’t looking for an age gap’

Of the happy union, Dennis told People magazine he is absolutely besotted with his new bride, who he met at a business event.

“I just love who she is as a person,” he told the magazine. “Her character, her intelligence, of course her beauty. And her point of view of the world.”

As for the four decades or so between them, Dennis says it hardly registers, and he was never looking for a younger partner.

“I didn't go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me,” he said. “You have no control over who you fall in love with. I don't fall in love easy.”

He also shared that the pair’s shared Christian faith has played a huge role in their unique relationship.

Meanwhile, Laura told the magazine she was blown away by his zest for life.

“It's like nothing can bring him down,” she said. “Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me. It changes my perspective and it brings so much joy to every day.”
