Dennis Quaid, 66, on 39-year age gap with wife Laura Savoie, 27

Dennis Quaid has opened up about the 39-year age gap between him and his new wife, Laura Savoie, saying it doesn’t bother him in the slightest.

Speaking on the Today show in the US yesterday, the 66-year-old said he connects with his 27-year-old wife in a way he hasn’t with anyone else before.

"There's 30-something years between us, and we just don't even notice it. I've never related to someone in my life better than we do," he said.

"We have such a great relationship and you know, love finds a way, wherever it is. You never know when love is coming, who it's gonna be, and you have no control over it. We just couldn't be happier."

Fans of the Parent Trap star were shocked back on June 2nd, when the pair announced they had tied the knot in an intimate ceremony.

They were initially meant to say ‘I do’ in a lavish Hawaiian wedding but due to coronavirus restrictions, they instead eloped in California.

The couple first began dating in May last year and their whirlwind romance kicked up a notch with a proposal from Dennis in October 2019.

The pair’s staggering age gap of 39 years has raised eyebrows throughout their relationship.

At 27 years old, Laura is younger than her now stepson, 28-year-old Jack Quaid, by one year.

Jack is Dennis’ child with actress Meg Ryan, to whom the star was married for almost ten years in the 1990s.

This will be The Rookie star’s fourth marriage after he split with his most recent ex Kimberly Quaid in 2018.

He was wed to P. J. Soles from 1978 until 1983, Meg Ryan from 1991 until 2001 and Kimberly from 2004 until 2018.

Laura is a student, currently completing her PHD at the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business where she is expected to graduate in 2021.

Of the happy union, Dennis told People magazine he is absolutely besotted with his new bride, who he met at a business event.

“I just love who she is as a person,” he told the magazine. “Her character, her intelligence, of course her beauty. And her point of view of the world.”

As for the four decades or so between them, Dennis says it hardly registers, and he was never looking for a younger partner.

“I didn't go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me,” he said. “You have no control over who you fall in love with. I don't fall in love easy.”

He also shared that the pair’s shared Christian faith has played a huge role in their unique relationship.

Meanwhile, Laura told the magazine she was blown away by his zest for life.

“It's like nothing can bring him down,” she said. “Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me. It changes my perspective and it brings so much joy to every day.”
