Demon Slayer's new season of Mugen Train arc now streaming

A new season of acclaimed anime Kimetsu No Yaiba, or Demon Slayer, is now streaming on platforms including Netflix, Viu, iQiyi, WeTV and Bilibili, distributor Muse Asia announced on Sunday (10 October).

Netflix is calling the new season, which is based on the Mugen Train story arc of the manga, the second season of Demon Slayer. This is where it gets confusing, because while the Mugen Train arc follows directly from where the first season of the anime series ended, the manga arc was first adapted as a movie which was released last year. As such, some consider the "official" second season to be the upcoming adaption of the Entertainment District arc, which follows the Mugen Train arc.

The Mugen Train arc focuses on the Flame Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku alongside the main characters Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu as they battle demons on a train.

This season of the anime series shouldn't be confused with the Mugen Train movie, which is also currently streaming on Netflix. However, the seven-episode season is itself adapted from the movie, with the addition of more scenes not seen in the movie, as well as new background music.

The Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie became the highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, beating the record held by Spirited Away.

The new season starts the first episode from the point of view of Rengoku, showing how he makes his way to the Mugen Train, where a powerful demon lurks.

Subsequent episodes of this season, which is still airing in Japan, will be available for streaming after they air on Sunday nights. This is a rare move from Japan as international anime releases are usually delayed.

Muse Asia has not yet released details on when the anime version of the much-awaited Entertainment District arc will be available. Since it will be aired in Japan from 5 December, it is likely we will hear from them nearer to the date.
