Demi Lovato 'awake and responsive' after suspected overdose

Demi Lovato is ‘awake and responsive’ after suffering from an apparent overdose.

The 25-year-old singer’s aunt, Kerissa Dunn, posted to her social media account to confirm the star is recovering well in hospital.

Lovato’s rep also told TMZ that her family are by her side and want to ‘express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support’.

“Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy …”, they said.

Lovato was admitted to a Los Angeles, California hospital, law enforcement said.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment they responded to a medical emergency at the 8000 block of Laurel View Dr. at 11:40 a.m on Tuesday.

Lovato is now in a ‘stable’ condition, according to TMZ.

Just hours before her hospitalisation, Lovato posted a made-up selfie to her Instagram page, which she decided to leave without a caption.

This news comes on the heels of the release of her song ‘Sober’, in which she admits that she had fallen off the wagon.

Lovato has always been open about her struggles with mental illness.

In her 2017 documentary Simply Complicated, she said her first encounter with drinking and partying was in high school, and it all escalated during her Disney Channel days.

“My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family,” she said in the film.

She’s been determined to find her way back to health.

In 2011, she entered treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm, and addiction.

Unfortunately, she relapsed shortly after, but then entered a sober living facility for a year.

Lovato had celebrated six years of sobriety this past March, before relapsing.

In early June, just two weeks before releasing ‘Sober’, she nixed a concert in London, saying she was ‘very very sick’ with swollen vocal cords.

Days after announcing her relapse via ‘Sober’ she showed off a new tattoo on Instagram.

She was inked with the word ‘Free’ and tagged her photo with the message: ‘Love is accepting someone for who they are’.

Yahoo Entertainment reached out to a publicist for Lovato, but didn’t immediately receive a response.
