Deadpool & Wolverine Debuts as Disney+’s Most-Watched Live-Action Film Since February 2023
Flame on!
Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine — which grossed over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office — is putting up big numbers on streaming as well.
More from TVLine
The mega-meta MCU entry drove 19.4 million views globally in its first six days of streaming, making it the most watched live-action film across Disney+ and Hulu since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began streaming in February 2023.
(Disney+ correctly defines a “view” as total stream time divided by runtime.)
Marvel TV Status Report: The Latest on Daredevil, the Vision Series and 9 Others
Deadpool & Wolverine follows Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds) as he “toils away in civilian life, his days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him.” But Wade must reluctantly suit up again with an even more reluctant Wolverine (the X-Men franchise’s Hugh Jackman) to battle as existential threat.
The movie also stars Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Paradox, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder and (a masked) Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool, plus — SURPRISE/”SURPRISE” CAMEOS AHEAD! — Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Channing Tatum as Gambit and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm.
Not making the cut, however, was Rob McElhenney, Reynolds’ investment partner and co-star on FX’s Welcome to Wrexham.
“So, @robmcelhenney kindly did a cameo in D&W,” Reynolds posted in August, along with photos of McElhenney both masked and unmasked as a TVA agent. When all was said and done, however, “The sequence wasn’t working and Rob is why it stayed in the cut for so long,” Reynolds said.
“It feels good when friends are nearby,” Reynolds wrote. “And even though I’m mortified he flew to London for me, I’m grateful my friend on that set. Rob shows up for people. It’s why he’s the absolute best.”
