Deadpool 3's Shawn Levy shares filming update20th Century Studios

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has issued an update on the superhero sequel's filming.

As you are probably aware, production for Deadpool 3 — which brings back Hugh Jackman's Wolverine — was put on pause when the actors union in Hollywood went on strike.

That strike is still happening and there's currently no end in sight, so Levy wasn't able to give an update there, but he did reveal how far the film got through production before shutting down.

"Like the rest of our industry, or at least large swath of it, we're paused. We're halfway through filming Deadpool, co-starring Wolverine," Levy told Deadline.

"It was a joy every day and that chemistry is as relentless as we all hoped it would be.

"Our crew and the rest of us are awaiting a fair and equitable deal that ends these strikes and puts this industry, inclusive of our movie, back at work."

Deadpool 3 is the first in the trilogy to be released after The Walt Disney Company purchased 20th Century Fox, but Levy was quick to say that the third film won't be toned down compared to the first two.

"I wasn't going to mess with the DNA of that franchise," he said. "Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated, and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments. We wanted something that felt grounded, real."

Deadpool 3 is currently still scheduled for a release on May 3, 2024, but if production doesn't pick back up soon, it's unlikely to meet that date.
