David Spade and Theo Von to Star in Buddy Comedy ‘Busboys’

David Spade and Theo Von will star in and produce a buddy comedy, “Busboys,” which they wrote and are self-financing.

Set in a border town in Arizona, the movie follows David and Theo, two friends who “think becoming waiters will solve all of their problems. They are wrong,” per the logline.

Jonah Feingold (“At Midnight,” “Dating & New York,” “EXmas”) will direct “Busboys,” which is also produced by Robert Ogden Barnum alongside Spade and Von.

Production will kick off Jan. 10 in Los Angeles.

“We are looking forward to gracing everyone with this comedy that no one asked for,” said Spade in a statement.

Spade, who became a household name during his stint as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member, has also starred in comedies such as “Joe Dirt,” “Grown Ups” and “The Wrong Missy.” He was also in the sitcoms “Rules of Engagement” and “8 Simple Rules.” He received an Emmy nomination for his role as Dennis Finch on “Just Shoot Me.” Now, he is a touring stand-up comedian who co-hosts the “Fly on the Wall” and “Superfly” podcasts with Dana Carvey.

Von is the host of “This Past Weekend,” one of the most popular podcasts in the world. His guests have included everyone from comedians Shane Gillis and Nikki Glaser to non-celebrities such as a mall cop and school lunch lady. This year he interviewed Donald Trump, JD Vance, Mark Cuban and Bernie Sanders. Von is also a stand-up comedian with two Netflix specials, “No Offense” and “Regular People.”
