David Foster, 72, addresses 35-year age gap with wife Katharine McPhee

Canadian musician David Foster has once again addressed the 35-year age gap between him and his wife, singer and actor Katharine McPhee.

The 16-time Grammy Award-winner opened up about his near-three-year marriage to the Smash star in a candid chat with People magazine.

David, who shares five adult daughters with previous partners, admitted that an age difference between a couple is just one of 'many things' that can affect a marriage.

"People always make the reference with Kat and I with the age difference," he said. "But I've always said there's so many things that can bring a marriage down, and age difference is just one of them."

As far as his own relationship with Katharine, 37, goes, he said he thinks the pair "have it pretty together."

The pair were engaged in 2018 and tied the knot in June the following year. They first meet back in 2006, when David mentored Katharine and other contestants on season 5 of American Idol.

In February 2021, David and Katharine welcomed their first child together, a son named Rennie David.

David told People that as an older dad he now has 'more time' to spend with the 11-month-old.

David has been married four times before. His first wife was singer and writer B.J. Cook, with whom he shares a daughter, Amy.

His second wife was Rebecca Dyer and they share three daughters, Sara, Erin and Jordan. His third wife was Linda Thompson and while the couple did not have children David was stepfather to Brody and Brandon Jenner who are Linda's sons with Caitlyn Jenner.

His fourth wife was Yolanda Hadid, making David stepfather to her children Bella, Gigi and Anwar from her previous marriage to Mohamed Hadid.

David was 20 when he had first child, a daughter named Allison who was adopted out, however, the pair reconnected decades later.
