It’s been known that Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has battled with mental illness in the past.
And now the Australian musician has opened up in a tell-all interview.
The 39-year-old has sat down with Andrew Denton for a candid chat which will air on Tuesday night on Channel 7.
In a snippet from the chat for the show titled Interview, Denton talks to the musician about his admission in Billboard magazine about not being mentally tough.
“Did I?” Daniel responds.
“Yeh you did,” Denton says. “Do you feel fragile?” Visibly shaken, Daniel opens up. “I do at times, yeh.”
“I think I get umm, it’s like an illness because I get…” he pauses, “that’s what fuels my art. But you know, I wish I was stronger mentally than I am.”
The full interview will explore Daniel’s struggles with alcohol and anxiety, in which the star opens up about his very private battles.
In October 2014, the singer was arrested for diving under the influence and convicted of mid-range drink driving.
“I made a mistake, for which I am really sorry,” the singer told reporters after his court hearing.
“I completed the traffic offenders program and it will never happen again.”
Daniel has also publicly battled anorexia and depression, the former in which Silverchair song ‘Ana’s Song’ was penned.
You can see the full interview with Daniel Johns on Channel 7, May 14 at 9pm.
