Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz's Extremely Private Marriage: Everything We Know

Daniel Craig, perhaps best known for his portrayal of iconic character James Bond, has stayed quite busy since wrapping his final Bond film in 2021. Most recently he's starred alongside Drew Starkey in Queer, a gay romance based on the 1985 novella by William S. Burroughs. He also played a gay man, detective Benoit Blanc, in both of Rian Johnson's Knives Out films.

But despite his recent pick of roles, Craig, who began acting in the 1990s, has been married to actress Rachel Weisz since 2011.

While both Craig and Weisz are extremely famous, the couple likes to keep their relationship private. "I'm in love. I'm very happy. And that is as far as I'm prepared to go," Craig told British GQ in 2012. "I don't want to say something now that might be thrown back later … My hap­piness is more important to me."

Weisz shared a similar sentiment in a 2016 interview with More about why she doesn’t discuss her marriage publicly. "He's just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage ... When you're young, you tell your girlfriends everything. One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don't have to share everything. When you're married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you're in your own life."

Daniel Craig is married to Rachel Weisz, an award-winning actress. Both actors are from England and split their time between London and New York.

Weisz first rose to fame when she starred in 1999’s The Mummy. Since then, she’s appeared in a number of successful films including About a Boy (2002), The Constant Gardener (2005), Disobedience (2017), The Favourite (2018) and Black Widow (2021). She won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for The Constant Gardener in 2006, and was nominated for her work in The Favourite in 2019.

Craig and Weisz met well before they started dating. In 1994, they were both cast in Les Grandes Horizontales at the National Theatre Studio in London. But it was a case of wrong timing. Craig was married at the time, and 16 years would go by before he and Weisz began a romantic relationship.

In late 2010, Craig and Weisz were again cast together, this time in the psychological thriller Dream House. They played a married couple in the movie, and like many stars before them, they turned their Hollywood relationship into a real one.

Although the pair were hush-hush about their relationship status, they reportedly spent Christmas 2010 together, "walking hand-in-hand in the snowy countryside of Dorset in southwestern England and entering a small, Edwardian-style pub together,” according to People.

In a secret ceremony, Craig and Weisz wed in June 2011 just six months after beginning their relationship. There were only four people in attendance: Craig’s daughter Ella, Weisz’s son Henry and two friends.

A few weeks later, they made their first appearance as a married couple at a screening of The Whistleblower. At the afterparty, Craig reportedly “embraced Rachel and gave her a long tender kiss on the lips,” a source told People. They made their red carpet debut at the premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in January 2012.

"I never thought I would get married. It was not an ambition of mine," Weisz told the London Standard in 2018. "It was the opposite. I couldn't relate to romantic comedies—marriage seems to be the whole point of them. Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment."

Daniel Craig is the only person Rachel Weisz has been married to. Prior to their relationship, she was engaged to filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. The two started dating in 2001, became engaged in 2005 and split up in 2010. They share one son, Henry Aronofsky.
