“Dance Moms: A New Era” Coach Glo Says She Received a 'Congratulatory Text' from Abby Lee Miller But Declined a Cameo

Dance coach Gloria "Glo" Hampton is ready to usher in a new era of Dance Moms while staying true to its roots.

Hampton, who is starring in Dance Moms: A New Era, Hulu's reboot of the beloved Lifetime series, told Entertainment Tonight that she invited her "good" friend Abby Lee Miller to make a cameo in the new series, which premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 7,

"As the show went on, I reached out to her. We were together in the same state, and I was like, 'Hey, come by set, we'd love to see you,' " said Hampton.

While the Abby Lee Dance Company founder ultimately declined the offer, Hampton said that Miller, 58, did send her a "congratulatory text."

"Abby was the trailblazer for this show, so I would love to have had her involved in some way," Hampton added.

Dance Moms aired for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019. Along with Miller, the original series featured dancers like Jojo Siwa, Maddie Ziegler, Kenzie Ziegler, Nia Sioux, Chloé Lukasiak, Kendall Vertes, Paige Hyland, Brooke Hyland and Kalani Hilliker.

Dance Moms: A New Era is set to follow a similar format by giving a behind-the-scenes look at Hampton's Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Va.

“Creating so many dances with very little time and competing them in three days is a huge undertaking. I give major props to Abby for doing it for eight seasons," Hampton told PEOPLE in July.

Noting that she has “big shoes to fill” with the new series, she told PEOPLE that she and Miller "are both tough teachers who expect a lot of our students, but we give a lot in return."

“The major difference is, I am a dance mom. I have first-hand experience in raising a star! My daughter is a professional ballerina," she added.
