This video of a new dad sending his twins to sleep with a unique lullaby has us crying for all the right reasons, and the story behind it will melt your heart even more.

Leigh Perry wrote an original lullaby for his twins Isla and Elliot while they were being treated in the intensive care unit. The pair arrived almost a month before their March due date, and Leigh and wife Rebecca found themselves facing two weeks of intensive care at the hospital, and all the uncertainty and anxiety that comes along with it.

With the new bubs being monitored, Leigh and Rebecca weren’t able to hold or cuddle their newborns as much as they would have liked to. Desperate to connect, they decided to reach their newborns the best way they knew how; through music.

Leigh sang the original song – coming up with the lyrics on the spot – after a nurse agreed to let him bring his guitar into the ward.

He says singing to the twins made all the difference for the little family in what was a tough time.

“We weren’t allowed to physically touch them all the time, but just being nearby and them being able to hear our voices and the guitar was really comforting,” he tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

For the twins the music was nothing new. Their dad had serenaded them through mum’s tummy throughout the pregnancy, and Leigh says once they were born he got to see the music’s impact first-hand.

“Playing the guitar and singing any song really really comforted and calmed them,” he says, adding it had a similar effect on the other babies in the ward.

“It was also really comforting to all the babies there, the nurses kept insisting: ‘can you come back and play your guitar it’s really relaxing.’”

The new parents are back home with their bundles of joy now, and are happy to report the mini music-lovers are happy and healthy and hopefully headed for a musical future.

“I’m hoping for the babies to have music in their blood and hopefully play an instrument,” the doting dad admits.

Well it’s safe to say they’re off to a good start!
