Yahoo Lifestyle Crowds watch karts race round city streets
Large crowds of people lined the streets of Wolverhampton to watch teams race bespoke designed go karts for charity.
Twenty teams competed in Wolverhampton Krazy Races on Sunday, the third year the event has been held with prizes given to the fastest, the most entertaining and the best designed.
Organisers said they love the atmosphere in the city and always enjoy returning to stage the event.
The karts, or soapboxes, started on Lichfield Street and travelled to Queen Square and down Victoria Street using "the power of gravity and silliness", organiser Danny Scoffin said.
"It's a really special event here," he added.
"We go all around the country putting these races on and this is our third year in Wolverhampton and we just love coming here.
"The atmosphere is lovely and there's thousands out - the streets are packed all the way with people watching so it's really amazing to see."
He said the teams, made up of companies and friends and families, had spent the past six months making and preparing their soapboxes to race in and there were some brilliants designs.
Taylor Wimpey had made a house on wheels, charity Haven had made a tent and a Scooby Doo kart also took part.
The karts contain a driver who is pushed by team mates before racing downhill to the finish line with the fastest time winning.
Mr Scoffin said they hoped to raise £10,000 which would be donated to The Friends of Alfie Johnson charity, a a West Midlands based non-profit charity, run by volunteers committed to helping children with disabilities across the Black Country.
